Former Gov. Kean talks with educators about teaching 9/11 http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2008/07/former_gov_kean_talks_with_edu.html July 3, 2008 Former Gov. Thomas Kean met today with New Jersey educators crafting a curriculum for teaching New Jersey's children about the attacks, sharing lessons learned from his experience as chairman of the national 9/11 commission. The setting was a conference kicking off a yearlong effort to develop curriculum and resources for teachers faced with a dual challenge of teaching the history and context of the terrorist attacks in communities that witnessed them.
Curriculum on 9/11 and Global Terrorism to be Tested in NJ Schools http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2009/09/new_jersey_is_part_of_plan_to.html September 10, 2009 The idea for the curriculum began with the Families of September 11 and the effort includes the Liberty Science Center, the state Commission on Holocaust Education and about 20 New Jersey teachers.
With guidance from the Commission on Holocaust Education -- which has written not just the state's Holocaust curriculum but also lessons on other acts of genocide -- teachers from around the state gathered several times over the last year to write dozens of lessons about terrorism for all grades. The curriculum cuts across many subjects, including social studies, history, language arts, art and music. Click on link to learn more.
